Onodera Temple is said to have been founded by the shaman, En no Gyoja. The Miroku Buddha in the cliffs on the opposite bank of the stream is one ol the tallest in Japan at 13.Sm. Immerse yourself in a peacefut walk through the forest along the mountain stream, cross the Kadomori Pass which looks down over the village of Muro and head toward Murou-ji, a mountain temple. Here you will find a five-storied pagoda, a national treasure and said to have been built in one night by Kobo Daishi, which is, along with the main building, the Buddha statues and the treasures the temple has inherited~ a first class cultural property. Visitors can also enjoy the specially, Zen Buddhist vegetarian cuisine at Hashimotoya outside the gate to Muroji Temple.
